This particular batch of Mahogany was imported into the country in the 1960's by the @robertovenn.school.of.luthiery (one of the premier guitar making schools in the country)
After changing hands a few times (and laying out in the Arizona sun for well over 20 years) we were offered the stock a few years ago.
This 8/4 lumber came to us pretty oxidized and weathered but as you can see by the picture, the pieces do clean up beautifully once surfaced and finished.
Along with the lumber, we also received a variety of other neat pieces in the load: buttress root slabs (over 60 slabs in unique shapes and sizes), 3,000 BF of large 4-5 inch thick weathered beams, stumps/logs and more.
It's been a lot of fun seeing our clients get creative and use this material in an assortment of different projects: guitars, wood wall cladding, free form sculptures, conference room tables, fireplace mantles, segmented woodturning, dining tables, bartops, exhibition booth displays, knife scales, surfboard fins, interior trim work in luxury cars, etc. The list goes on and on!

Cuban Mahogany rocking chair by customer Ed Kreusser!
Wood salvaged from naturally felled trees during Hurricane Hugo (Dominican Republic 1989)
If you've ever wondered what the rarest wood in the wood is, true Cuban Mahogany (not plantation grown) is definitely towards the top of the list.
Commercially unavailable for close to 100 years, lumber from this particular batch of Cuban Mahogany was used in restoration projects in the White House, New York City Hall, the Smithsonian and the America's Cup "J" Class yacht "Endeavour".
Although we don't have any more Cuban Mahogany available for sale, we did manage to keep a "little chunk" of wood to add to the company's private collection (one slab measuring 2" x 24" x 137").
This slab has been featured in several woodworking magazines/blogs and is believed to be the largest single piece of Cuban Mahogany in existence (not for sale, sorry).
Amazing piece Ed, thanks for sending us the picture of your beautiful chair!

Genuine Honduran Mahogany (4,000 BF of 50 year old stock!)
We currently have approximately 4,000 board feet of Genuine Mahogany that was imported into the country in the 1960's. Old, tight-grained, bone-dry stock! Perfect for fine furniture, musical instruments, boat interiors, wood turning and more.
UPDATE: The size and "rustic/weathered" appearance of these boards make them a great option for different types of reclaimed furniture such as tabletops and benches.
Sizes range from roughly:
1-4" thick x 3-12" wide x 48-200" long.
$18.00/BF
$14.50/BF (bulk/wholesale order of 100 BF or more)
Please note that although most pieces will have some type of checking/defects, overall each will yield plenty of usable material with careful cuts and measurements. To help offset some of the waste involved in milling these large pieces, we will be fairly generous in our measurements for all orders.
As a result of the wide range of sizes, we will not be listing this material on our online store.
Please contact us directly for all orders/questions or feel free to drop by the shop to check out the stock in person.
