Black Heart Sassafras Slabs

We're getting the shop ready for our Annual Parking Lot Sale a few weeks from now.
So we have been cleaning up some material for this event (Joining, Planing, Sanding...)

And here we have a few "before-and-after" pictures on a beautiful Black Heart Sassafras slab.

Above is the slab as most of you got to know it...

Getting the tools ready... And after several passes, a cloud of sawdust, and a workout...

Here it is! Above, the same slab after a little TLC...

Look at the grain popping out when you wet it!!!

Nice light tone wood, with dark contrasting streaks, and beautiful live edge. We believe it is a gorgeous Slab!

What do you think? Let us know...

You can see this and many other slabs on the slabs page of our website.
And don't forget to take advantage of our Annual Parking Lot Sale.
Call us if you have any questions or to find out more, and keep an eye out for our e-newsletter with updates. If you don't already receive it, you can easily subscribe on our website.

Close up shots of Sanded-Black Heart Sassafras

(this is a good indication of what BHS will look like with a finish:
Deep walnut-like browns and contrastong dark streaks)

Here are some BEFORE/AFTER shots of couple of slabs of Black Heart Sassafras that have been through a wide belt sander*.

*please keep in mind this with only a 60 grit belt, so you can imagine how that figure is going to only get stronger once you get up to 220, 320, etc.

No finish yet but the amazing figure that has made BHS one of our best sellers is pretty easy to see.

Color will get darker with a finish)

Black Heart Sassafras Coffee Table

Remember this slab? It was a real odd ball 2" slab that was laying around the shop for a few months. After receiving the new load of Australian slabs, we decided to take this one and make a Coffee table. We trimmed the edges so it would fit better in the living room it was going into and constructed a base out of a very dense piece of Balsa Lumber we had here at the shop.

Black Heart Sassafras Slab-price reduced!!!

This is the last slab remaining from our last Aussie shipment back in june of last year. Most Black Heart Sassafras slabs are very straight, but this odd ball seems to have some real interesting stuff going on. Its shape is a little wierd for most people, so we have reduced the price quite a bit. But if your looking to make a unique coffetable or related project this would be a killer piece at a great price.
SOLD

New Aussie Slabs on the way!!!

All these Blackheart Sassafrass slabs I selected as they were coming off the mill last year when I was in Tasmania. They were too good not to get!
These guys are wild looking. Blackheart Sassafrass.

Jarrah Burl slab. Great figure!
Curved figured Rose Myrtle slab. Sam Maloof purchased a few of these for benched in his compound. I think this would make a great head board!

Tasmanian Blackheart Sassafrass

On one of my trips to Australia I had a chance to select some Blackheart Sassafrass. the stuff has a very spalted like figured. I sold a few slabs to Sam Maloof and he plans to make benches with them for his new muesum.
