We always like showing images of Dale's bowls to clients who are convinced that certain raw turning blanks (or even tabletop slabs in some cases) are usable because of slight imperfections such as hairline cracks/small knots/worm holes/etc.
His pieces help to remind us that wood as an organic and dynamic medium and that working with natural defects is just part of the deal.
They also show that with enough patience and proper technique, even the ugliest blanks can be pulled from the burn pile and turned into beautiful pieces of art.
Personally, we love stuff like this!
