Parota community table by Jeff Nilson

Jeff Nilson of Nilson Winter Construction just sent us over these great images of a Parota table he recently finished.

We remember this piece. Good size piece of wood in some hefty dimensions. If we remember correctly is was about 3" x 40" x 144". Now that's a tabletop!

Interested in a Parota slab such as the one pictured above?

Here are some reasons why Parota has become our best selling species-
  • Consistent availability in large sizes
  • Easy workability
  • Great color/grain
  • Economical pricing
  • Fast growing & sustainable species
Just a great wood to work with any way you look at it!

CNC flattening available for our large tabletop slabs!...

Ever wonder what's the easiest way to flatten one of our large Parota slabs?

Here is a 3" x 48" x 120" Parota slab being flattened by Tassajara Designs on their CNC.

How big of a slab can the CNC handle?

According to Mike Wells (owner of Tassajara Designs), he can go as large as 60" x 168" by rotating the slabs on the table to get wider/longer pieces. Mike says weight is the really the only limiting factor!

Although wide belt sanding may work for smaller slabs, CNC flattening makes life alot easier when pieces are just too large to muscle around and/or have some kind of twisting or cupping.

Interested in purchasing one of our large tabletop slabs and having them flattened on Tassajara Design's CNC pictured above?

Masur birch urn for Cody, the shop dog...

Our friend Mike Wells of Tassajara Designs recently had this beautiful masur birch urn made to commemorate his late Cairn terrier, Cody.

Mike's friend Phil Stivers did all the turning including the threaded Ebony cap.

As many of you probably know, Tassajara Designs used to be located right next to our warehouse for several years. On more than one occasion we can remember Cody sneaking into our shop and finding him hiding in the back, usually covered in sawdust and tucked neatly in between our pallets of cocobolo.

Cody was a perfect example of why every decent woodshop needs good shop dog.

We think this beautifully turned urn is a perfect way for Mike to remember his loyal companion of over 16 years.

Thanks for the pictures Mike.

Three Highly Figured Cocobolo Billets!

Check out these three gorgeous pieces we just found!

All three billets of Cocobolo are very unique and extremely figured throughout. Perfect for bowl blanks, billiard cues, furniture, etc. It's hard to think of a project where these pieces wouldn't come in handy, just amazing stuff!

Below are some images of both faces and both edges on all three pieces.

Left piece-roughly 7" x 4.5" x 23"-$251.50 (one face is almost all crotch figure!)
Middle piece-roughly 9"x 5" x 37.75"-$530.55
Right Piece-roughly 9.5" x 4.5" x 24.5"-$327.15

Please keep in mind that these are raw billets so
there will be some checks/partial pith/sap/etc. on each of them. However with careful cutting each will definitely yield plenty of usable material.

Feel free to give us a call if any of them interest you!

On display at our shop: Large parota dining table by Ben Wheatley

If you ever wanted to see what one of our large Parota slabs looked like once finished, right now would be a great time to stop by the shop to see this beautiful piece of furniture!

We will be shipping this finished table out to a resort in Florida in a couple of days but until then it will be on display here at our warehouse.

Customer Ben Wheatley constructed this large table out of one large Parota slab measuring 3" thick x 50-60" wide x 180" long!

The base was constructed out of a large parota billet to ensure matching grain and color.

What a table!

Below are several pictures that hopefully do the table justice (Again if you have the ability to stop by the shop and see it in person, we highly recommend you do!).

Below is a shot of Ben and Mitch Talcove (owner of TEH) with the finished table and a shot of the unfinished slab before Ben picked it up to finish the table.

If you are interested in a large slab such as this, please feel free to browse our "Slabs Page" on our website to see if any fit your needs.
