Large turnings by Harvey Fein

Here are a couple pictures of some fantastic pieces done by Harvey Fein from New Jersey

This piece was made out of a short cocobolo dead log section much like the one below.

What do we mean by "dead"?

Note that there is no sapwood in the log below-

New cambium or sapwood turns into heartwood as a tree grows. Once the tree has died naturally, the remaining cambium layer rots away as is the case with these cocobolo logs.

Where our cocobolo is harvested in Mexico, many times we come across these "dead" cocobolo trees either standing or on the ground. They make for nice large turnings since they are usually nice and dry and sap-free.

We usually have a few of these logs at the shop at all times, let us know if you have any other questions about them.
Here we see Harvey using one of our Jatoba Crotch slabs for another large turning. These pieces have some incredible figure and are great to work with.

We still have quite a bit of them so let us know if you are after something different and in larger dimensions, we can tell you what we have.
